Volvo XC60 - the latest car from the famous concern

Volvo XC60 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid

In recent years, Volvo has refreshed its lineup, releasing new models that are well-designed and comfortable to drive. The updates have especially impacted hybrid models; for instance, the battery in the Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid provides nearly 79 km of electric range along with high performance and very comfortable driving.

Design and Performance of the Volvo XC60

The Volvo XC60 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T6 AWD features a 2-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine with 253 hp and a turbocharger, plus a 145 hp electric motor, which together provide a total power output of 455 hp and the option for all-wheel drive. This latest model has a larger battery with a capacity of 18.8 kWh (14.9 kWh usable).

The battery is located inside the car, adding useful legroom for passengers in the central and rear seats.

With a combined output of 455 hp and acceleration to 62 mph in 5.7 seconds, drivers can easily speed up and move between vehicles in heavy traffic. The XC60 never lacks power, even when climbing steep hills, and the standard all-wheel drive provides excellent traction. The XC60 also feels more maneuverable on country roads than a car weighing 2086 kg should. Traction is also good thanks to the all-wheel-drive system.

The gear selector has positions R, N, and D. In most new cars, you move the gear selector between R and D with one motion, but if you do this with the XC60, you’ll end up in neutral. If you select D and then pull the lever down again, you activate brake regeneration, which is displayed on the driver’s instrument panel but not marked near the gear selector. You can also move the selector to the side to change gears manually.

Volvo XC60 has a stylish look

The only drawback in driving the Volvo XC60 is that the model does not have the option to change driving modes on the instrument panel. To access the drive modes, you need to press the gear symbol in the bottom right corner of the touchscreen. After pressing the gear, you press the button to control the car and then select the driving modes:

  • Hybrid
  • Power
  • Pure
  • Off-Road or Constant AWD

Below these modes is the option to use the battery: automatic hold and charge.

The 9-inch central touchscreen allows you to control navigation, activate the phone, and adjust the cabin temperature. If you press the symbol with four fields in the bottom left part of the touchscreen, you get access to a range of additional vehicle controls.

A great feature of the Volvo XC60 is that if you turn off the lane-keeping assist system, it will remain off the next time you start the car.

Interior of the Volvo XC60

The 2024 XC60 Recharge looks and feels high-end even in the base configuration. The clean and logical Scandinavian interior details are complemented by high-quality, pleasant-to-touch materials. The car is quiet and comfortable. There is plenty of space in the front, even for tall drivers and passengers, and more legroom in the rear seat than in most direct competitors.

The cargo space of this Volvo, at 468 liters behind the rear seats, is not particularly impressive compared to most competitors, but folding the seats expands the trunk to 1395 liters. This is much closer to the average for this segment. Overall, the Recharge has slightly less interior space than the XC60 and does not have a spare wheel due to the placement of the battery.

Overall, the XC60 Recharge gives the impression of a very convenient and comfortable car. The ride quality is excellent, and the entire car feels refined and well-designed. It is almost silent on electricity and also very quiet on its gasoline engine when driving on the highway.

Safety of the Volvo XC60 Recharge

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2024 XC60 Recharge the Top Safety Pick+ designation. Additionally, Volvo also has a decent set of standard driver assistance features, including blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and road sign recognition.

For installing child seats, there are two full sets of LATCH connectors for the rear side seats of the XC60 Recharge and an anchor for the rear middle seat. IIHS gave this LATCH system the second-highest rating of “Acceptable” for its ease of use.

Conlusions

The Volvo XC60 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid combines power, sustainability and comfort, making it the perfect choice for modern drivers. With its advanced design, high performance and safety, this model meets the highest standards of quality and reliability, offering drivers an unforgettable driving experience.
